What Will Happen If I Cut Down on Metformin?
Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006
I am going to the doctor for a checkup tomorrow evening. My Blood Glucose levels have been excellent (80 tonight 3 hrs after dinner). I am betting that after he gets back my A1c test results next week, he will cut the amount of Metformin I am taking. That is cool, however, I wonder about the effects of stopping with the medication will have on my body.
Metformin speeds up your metabalism, so it could also be helping you to lose weight. However, I am at my optimum weight now since I have been between the same range of one and a half to two pounds over the last four weeks or so - I've hit critical mass, or minimum mass as the case may be. I hope I do not balloon up. I have worked too hard for that to happen.
The websites I have visited do not really tell you what will happen. I have even read a discussion on one of the diabetes message boards, to no avail. However, my goal is to be rid of all of the medications by the end of the year. I hope that that is doable. I want to leave the doctor's office tomorrow with cutting down this medication by half (from 500 to 250 mgs). My pressure has also been good, so I wonder if he will cut that out as well.
