My Own Diabetes TheoryMonday, August 21, 2006 Since I have not yet been brainwashed by any type of conforming view on diabetes, from what I am reading, I would like to bring forth a variation on diabetes. I am not a doctor and this is all speculation on my part with my whole two months of diabetes experience, but I would like to claim that people do not “get” diabetes, but every diabetic is born with diabetes. If a person has the diabetes gene, then they have diabetes. The symptoms of the disease may not be seen for many years, but from day one, the individual that has the “”diabetes” gene is diabetic. It is only a matter of time for these people to actually suffer from the complications. There are two primary stages of diabetes, which are currently called Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. This is where some imbalance or event with the human body occurs that affects the production and/or effectiveness of insulin and organs related to its functionality. The secondary stages of diabetes are the complications created by stage one such as retinopathy, heart attack, etc. I would also theorize that there had to be some type of stress or trauma to induce a person with the diabetic gene to become stage 1. If we can find this stress “catalyst,” then maybe we discover how to block it and therefore shield future generations from this disease.
