Am I Going To Die Fifteen Years Too Soon?Thursday, July 6, 2006 I was doing some research for this site and found an interesting article about a recent study that concluded that individuals with Type II diabetes are more likely to die fifteen years earlier than people without this disease. [Click here for article] However, the article does not say anything about those who try to take care of themselves and their life expectancy. If I take care of myself and stay "healthy" - will it matter, or should I write 15 years off my life regardless. Now that is a scary thought. Also note, the study did not look at people with Type I diabetes. A quick observation about myself: I was extremely tired and fatigued during the weeks (even months) before I was diagnosed with diabetes and my head always seemed in a cloud. I do not know if it is the medication itself, the fact that my blood sugar levels are lower, the fact that I have lost some weight, or a combination of all of the above, but my head is clearer than it has been in a long time and I seem to have a bit more energy than I have had in recent weeks. I even began exercising this week - I walked up and down a few flights of stairs yesterday and did some work with very light weights today after the kids went to sleep. FYI: My glucose machine did not come today. What a relief, I can wait one more day before sticking myself with a sharp object.
